Director of Seto Marine Biological Laboratory, Kyoto University

It is a great pleasure and an honor to extend to you a warm invitation to attend this symposium. The purpose of the symposium is to provide a common forum for scientists from various parts of the world to present their latest research and developments of biological interaction between crustaceans and molluscs. The symposium is open to anyone who has interests in this suject and organized and sponsored by Carcinological Society of Japan and Malacological Society of Japan.  The host institute,  Seto Marine Biological Laboratory, Kyoto University, has 90 years history and has been one of center institutions in Japan to study taxonomy, systematics, ecology, other natural history sciences of marine organisms. Therefore, I believe that the SMBL is most suitable institute to host this symposium. I hope the symposium will provide you with an opportunity to communicate with scientists of other taxonomic fields.

Message from
President of Malacological Society of Japan

Both Malacological Society of Japan and Carcinological Society of Japan have long history, and this is the first collaboration of the two societies, namely, a happy marriage of the two societies. In marine and freshwater contexts, molluscs and crustaceans are two major components of the fauna, and various, and sometimes extraordinary, relationships are seen between molluscs and crustaceans. The topics and subject by the symposium speakers are very surprising and completely new. I hope this symposium will lead to new insights and new direction of study on relationship between crustaceans and molluscs.

Kenji Okoshi, Professor, Toho University

Message from Chair,
Organizing Committee

I wish to extend to you a warm welcome to this symposium. Molluscan species form various types of relationships with many crustacean species, including mutualisms, symbiosis and parasitism. Those relationships are sometimes amazing and beyond our imagination. In this symposium, young and spirited scientists will report their extraordinary findings on relationship between molluscs and crustaceans. Let's enjoy the symposium with us!

Tomoyuki Nakano, Assistant Professor, Kyoto University

This symposium (15 April 2017) is held during the Annual Meeting of Malacological Society of Japan at Shirahama on 15 and 16 April 2017.  (The symposium is open to anyone who has interests in this subject including non-members of Malacological Society of Japan and non-members of Carcinological Society of Japan)
